Donations to Canadian Red Cross to assist the people of Haiti
Submitted Submitted by Aneta Costin on Tue, 01/19/2010 - 18:05

Each day since last week’s devastating earthquake in Haiti we have seen pictures and heard stories of unbelievable suffering and devastation. We have also seen confirmation from around the world that we are indeed our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.
According to the TDSB website, our school board is supporting donations to two charities, one of which is the Canadian Red Cross. In order to allow our students and community to help newly identified brothers and sisters, we will be collecting donations for the Canadian Red Cross at Forest Hill Collegiate starting on Tuesday and running until Friday. We will kick off our campaign with a coin collection on Tuesday during Period 2.
Parents who wish to send donations via their children may do so either by cash or cheque. Donations of $10 or more will generate a receipt for income tax purposes. If you wish a tax receipt, please send a cheque for $10 or more, made out to The Canadian Red Cross, with your name and address clearly indicated on your cheque.
As you know, the Canadian government will match individual contributions to a maximum of $50 million.
I know I can count on the FHCI community of staff, students and parents to assist the relief efforts in Haiti.

FHCI is Hosting a Presentation
Submitted Submitted by Aneta Costin on Tue, 01/12/2010 - 16:18

On Wednesday morning, FHCI is hosting a presentation for elementary school children from 11 area schools. The speaker will be Greg Mortenson, co-author of the New York Times #1 bestseller "Three Cups of Tea" and author of bestseller "Stones for Schools." Mr. Mortenson will be speaking to about 700 students in Grade 4 to 6 from 11 local elementary schools. The students in our Grade 12 Writer's Craft course will also be in the audience. I am hoping we will have space for our 10 students from Pakistan and Afghanistan, where Mr. Mortenson has been so instrumental in the cause of education and peace.
I am half way through "Three Cups of Tea" and am finding this true story totally absorbing. I aim to finish the book before Wednesday.
I encourage you to read about Mr. Mortenson and his remarkable contributions at

Submitted Submitted by admin on Sat, 09/19/2009 - 10:00

You may have heard that one of our students is missing. 17 year-old Mariam Makhniashv has been missing since Monday morning when she was on her way to school at Forest Hill CI.

Toronto Police Service (TPS) has set up a command post outside Mariam's apartment building in the hopes of received information that will lead them to Mariam.

The latest TPS News Release, with photos of Mariam, can be found at:

Please print the News Release and post it at your workplace. In addition, please send this email to people in your contacts list to enlist their support in watching out for Mariam.

Together, as a community, I am confident we will find Mariam and return her safely to her family.
