Guidance

Forest Hill C.I., school counsellors are a vital link to academic, career, and personal social development for all students. Working in collaboration with other educational programs in the high school, our certified school counsellors ensure equity and access to programs and services so that every student is challenged and supported to achieve his/her highest potential. In 2001 Forest Hill C.I. adopted the American School Counsellor Association (ASCA) National Standards for School Counselling Programs, which address the academic, career, and personal/social (life skills) needs of all students. Our school counselling staffs has been trained in the National Standards and have spent the last three years designing curriculum, programs and services that assist students in learning the knowledge and skills necessary for success. Counsellors also measure the results of their programs, using data to determine our successes. School counsellors advocate students by providing guidance and support to maximize each student's potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents, and the community, school counsellors facilitate a support system to ensure that all students in Forest Hill C.I. are prepared academically and socially with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

Counsellors provide support for students through classroom guidance lessons, group counselling session, individual counselling, and consultation with parents and teachers and through collaboration with other community resources. Counselling guidance lessons taught by school counsellors in the classroom are intended to give students the knowledge, skills and attitudes that lead to academic, career and personal / social development. With the District's support and adoption of the National School Counselling Standards, counsellors at Forest Hill C.I. have redesigned their program to provide more direct services to students so that less time is spent in clerical and administrative functions.
