 Results from Sudbury…
On Saturday morning, Jacob Maurutto-Robinson competed in his FHCI jersey in the OFSAA provincial cross-country championships. The skies were clear after a rainy week that left the course wet and muddy in places. Jake ran with the best 253 Grade 9 cross country runners in Ontario and crossed the finish line with the top third of all the runners. Among the runners from Toronto, Jake improved his previous standing to 6th from 8th. Congratulations, Jake!
This week at FHCI…
1. Markbook printouts
By now you will have received your child’s Markbook printouts. Two or three teachers will complete their distribution this week. If you haven’t seen all your child’s Markbook printouts by Tuesday, please contact me and I will track down the missing reports.
2. School Council Meeting: Tuesday, November 5, 2013
The School Council meets in the Staff Room on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. You received the agenda on Friday. You are invited by the Council members to join them for their monthly meeting.
3. “Take Our Kids to Work”: Wednesday, November 6, 2013
Grade 9 students will join their parents/guardians or other friends/family members at their workplace on Wednesday. This is a worthwhile program that gives Grade 9 students greater insight into the world of work.
4. Academic Awards Assembly”: Wednesday, November 6, 2013
On Wednesday morning we hold our annual Academic Awards Assembly, honouring the 74 students at FHCI who earned top marks last year in our 114 Grade 9-11 classes. Award winners will be acknowledged by current Grade 10-12 students and then hosted at a reception following the assembly. Parents/guardians are invited to join the assembly and reception.
5. Music Night for Strings Students: Wednesday, November 6, 2013
Please join us at 7:00 PM in the Vocal Music Room for performances by the students in our Strings music program. This is an annual event that showcases the outstanding talent in our music students. The students promise you an evening of beautiful music.
6. Midterm Reports Distributed: Thursday, November 7, 2013
Just before the end of the school day on Thursday, students return to their Period 1 class to receive their midterm report cards showing full information about their progress in each of their courses. Students without a Period 1 class will pick up their reports in the main office at the same time as the rest of the students. Please be sure your child brings home the report to you. We rely on our students to be our delivery agents of all their academic reports expect for the June report card.
Looking ahead to the following week…
7. Remembrance Day Assembly: Monday, November 11
I am happy to extend an invitation to parents/guardians to attend our annual Remembrance Day assembly. We hold two assemblies in the morning. I will send you the schedule at the end of the week.
8. Full disclosure date: Thursday, November 14
Under the terms of the “full disclosure” policy, all Grade 11 and 12 courses taken or attempted by students will be recorded on the Ontario Student Transcript, with the percentage grades earned and the credits gained. There is no record on the transcript of courses a student deletes within five days of the date of the midterm report card. That date for Semester 1 is November 14.
9. PA Day: Friday, November 15
There will be no classes in TDSB high schools on Friday, November 15 to allow for teachers to participate in professional development activities.
