Invitation to all FHCI parents/guardians from the FHCI School Council:
The Forest Hill Collegiate School Council presents its premier event of their Education Series for Parents on December 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The guest speaker will be Frances Saltzman, RCMP, speaking about identity theft and internet safety.

Ms. Saltzman has over 30 years of experience with the RCMP. She has worked on drug related cases, escorted prisoners and handled VIP security. Through her VIP work, she felt privileged to bodyguard many heads of state, including former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Yitzhak Rabin and Prince Philip.
Ms. Saltzman has extensive experience in the area of identity theft and more importantly, identity protection and internet safety. You are invited to hear her presentation about how to protect your privacy and your identity.

See the attached flyer for details. Your reply, as requested in the flyer, will help determine the best location in the school for the audience to meet.

We hope you will join us for this valuable presentation.

The week past…

1. Building Bridges
On Tuesday evening, we held a potluck supper and information evening for the parents/guardians of the students in our English Language Learning (ELL) program. Many of the ELL students joined their families for this event. The information part of the evening featured presentations by our ELL teachers, current and former ELL students, Guidance Counselor, School Council and community partners. We were delighted at the number of parents/guardians and students who attended and will ensure the information from that evening reaches all the parents/guardians of ELL students.

2. Coffee House
What a delight it was to listen to the many performances of our talented students—solo, duet, trio, large group. The audience gave generous applause to each musician from the first drummer to the final ensemble. Thanks to our music teachers and the students in the Music Directorate for their effective work in set up and clean up.

This week at FHCI…

2. Staff Meeting: Tuesday, November 26, 2013
We will be following the Late Opening schedule (page 44 in the Student Agenda Book) to allow for the monthly staff meeting.

3. Accessing extra help for FHCI students
We are now well into the second term of the semester. If your child needs more individual help to master current concepts and topics, please encourage your child to seek help from the classroom teacher outside school hours. Each teacher sets aside regular time to meet with students for individual help either before school, at lunch, or after school. If your child wants more extensive personal help, then send your child to the Guidance Office to get the directions on how to request a peer tutor. Our student tutors have all been endorsed by at least two teachers. The tutor and student work together in the guidance office according to the schedule that works best for the pair. Students who work with a peer tutor generally have high praise for the tutoring experience.

If you need more recommendations for assistance beyond these, please let me know.
