Semester 2 timetables were distributed to students last week. Please review the timetable with your child. All requested timetable changes must be completed by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 28. After that time, no further timetable changes will be made. Students cannot be added to classes that have reached their enrolment limit.
Please note: Students in Grade 9-11 are expected to take four courses each semester. If your child in Grade 12 plans to drop a course, please have your child complete that process now so students on waiting lists can be accommodated.
This week at FHCI…
1. EQAO Math Exam: Monday, January 19 and Tuesday, January 20
All students who are enrolled in Grade 9 Academic or Applied Math classes this semester will write the provincial math test on Monday and Tuesday during their math class. The test is based on the curriculum students have studied in their math classes this semester. Students with an Individual Education Plan and students enrolled in an ESL course will receive up to double time to complete the test each day, in accordance with the testing procedures established by EQAO. Part of the test will count for 10% of each student’s final FHCI math mark. Students must be present to write the exam as scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
2. Civics Exam: Tuesday, January 20
On Tuesday, students currently enrolled in Grade 10 Civics will write their end-of-course exam during their Civics class. Students must be present to write the exam as scheduled on Tuesday.
3. Tutorial Morning: Wednesday, January 21 AM
There are no classes scheduled on Wednesday. All teachers will be available from 9:00 to 11:00 AM to provide individual help for students in preparation for their end-of-course exams. A schedule of teacher locations will be posted in the front foyer.
4. End-of-course exams: Wednesday, January 21 PM to Wednesday, January 28 AM
Formal exams begin at 1:00 PM on Wednesday according to the exam schedule distributed to students and emailed to parents/guardians. Please be sure you and your child know when exams are scheduled. It rarely happens, but if your child is too sick to write an exam when it is scheduled, please call the main office on the morning of the missed exam and request a ‘Missed Evaluation’ form for your child’s doctor to verify the seriousness of the illness. The form must be submitted to the Main Office within two school days of the missed exam. The teacher will then arrange a separate evaluation for your child.
5. PA Day: Thursday, January 29
There are no classes on Thursday, January 29. Our teachers will be in school preparing for Semester 2 classes.
6. Semester 2 Begins: Friday. January 30
Semester 2 begins on January 30. The Semester 2 start date ensures there are the same number of school days in each semester. In the morning, students will attend all four of their Semester 2 classes. In the afternoon, students will participate in exam review. During exam review, the teacher takes up the exam. Students double check to see that all questions have been marked and the addition of marks is accurate. If a student believes a question has been incorrectly marked, the student and teacher arrange a separate meeting to review the question. Teachers retain final exams in the school for one full year.
