Please come to an extra special FHCI event, "So You Think You Can Slam," Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 PM. I had the wonderful privilege of watching the performers rehearse and found their 'Slam Poetry' both poignant and inspirational. This will be an evening that will stay in your heart and your mind for weeks to come.
Here are the details of the event:
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SLAM
A fundraiser for Frontier College’s Aboriginal Summer Literacy Camps
Brought to you by FHCI's Social Action Club
Tuesday May 19th @ 7pm. $5 per ticket.
(warning: some poems use strong language and mature themes)
Don’t miss FHCI’s first ever slam poetry competition! We have an incredible show prepared featuring 10 outstanding student slam poets who are guaranteed to stir you, challenge you, and inspire you. We are also excited to bring you two featured poets, Kay Kassirer and Anne-Marie Woods. But perhaps the best part is that while you are entertained you are simultaneously reaching out to help children in aboriginal communities across Canada. All of the proceeds from this show will be donated to the Frontier College Aboriginal Summer Literacy Camps established by Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, James K. Bartleman in 2005. These summer camps have had incredible success across more than 40 aboriginal communities across Canada and are having a tremendous positive impact on hundreds of youths and their communities.
