I am pleased to send you information for you to share with your child about “Make Your Pitch”. I first sent out this information in 2013. One of our students entered his ‘pitch’ and was one of six winners from across Ontario! I sent out the information again in 2014 and once more, an FHCI student was among the six winners. Last year our student competitor made it to the final round.

I hope we can keep up the great success we’ve had in the past three years. If your child is considering an entry, please let me know and I will be sure your child connects with the FHCI students who competed so successfully in the last three years.

In an effort to encourage Ontario high school students to consider a career as an entrepreneur, Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and the Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure are pleased to be bringing back the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition, http://www.makeyourpitch.ca/.

Students in Grades 9-12 pitch their best business ideas in a two-minute video to be voted on by the public and a panel of hand-selected expert judges!

Process:
Students create a two-minute video explaining their business idea. The video includes what problems their business idea will solve, who the customers will be, and why the business will succeed. This is for the chance to win prizes, mentoring and a trip to Toronto to pitch live at the OCE's Discovery conference at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on May 8-10, 2016. Students may present their idea in either English or French, whichever is most comfortable for them.

Twenty finalists will present their ideas to a judging panel at the Ontario Centres of Excellence's Discovery Conference in Toronto this April. The finalists will also receive business coaching.

Six winners will be selected and presented with reserved entry into Ontario's Summer Company program, which includes mentoring, training and a grant of up to $3,000 to help launch their business. If a winner does not qualify for the Summer Company program, an equivalent in support will be provided.

The Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition is a great way for students to gain valuable skills and hands-on experience in entrepreneurship that they can apply to real-world situations.

Prizes for the winning ‘pitches’ include:
1) Nymi Band from Nymi,
2) Muse brain-sensing headband by InteraXon,
3) Reserved entry into the Summer Company program
4) Award of up to $3,000 in funding to start their business, along with an award suite to be announced shortly.

Important Dates:
Video submission deadline is March 23, 2106.
