• FHCI School Council Education Series for Parents/Guardians
The FHCI School Council invites you to a presentation by Toronto Police Service, 53 Division, on Thursday, May 5. This is part of the School Council Education Series. Officers from 53 Division will speak from 7:00-8:30 PM in the FHCI library. Topics will including reducing your vulnerability to fraud, scams, electronic harassment, break and enter, and auto theft. Details are in the attached flyer. Please come and bring a friend. All members of the community are welcome. If you plan on attending, please reply to the invitation firstname.lastname@example.org by April 30.
• Report Cards
Report cards were issued to students at the end of the day on Friday, April 22. Because of the ongoing teachers’ union job action, the report cards do not include personal comments nor Learning Skill indicators.
With each of the two Ministry-required reports cards issued each semester, I send letters of commendation to full-time students who: 1) achieved an average of 80% or more on their FHCI courses; 2) improved their current average over their previous report card average; or 3) demonstrated exemplary attendance. With this April report card, I issued nearly 1000 letters to about 660 students. The names of the student recipients and an indication of the letter(s) they received are posted in the foyer.
As you review your child’s report card, here are the school-wide ABCs to use as your point of reference: A) the average mark school-wide hit an all-time highthis report period of 79%; B) the average number of absences per student per class was just 3; and C) the average number of lates per student per class was a low of 1. I provide this information because we consistently see a strong connection between student absences/lates and academic achievement.
If you wish to discuss your child’s results, please contact your child’s teachers, counsellor, vice principal or me. Together with you and your child, we can help develop a plan for improvement.
